The MET Costume Institute ... The opening of the Costume Institute and the exhibition - Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations

On the 7th of May 2012, The MET received the most prominent people on this planet mostly celebrities and people from the fashion industry for the MET GALA. It's a day where everyone puts on their best dress and those who are accompanied by a designer are the ones who are mostly sought after.

This year the opening of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York is paying homage to Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada -  'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations', an exhibition dedicated to both designers and the similarities behind the collections of these two women, from completely different generations.
The exhibition will showcase different iconic designs by both designers, illustrating the affinity between both, especially, the way that they exceptionally interacted art and fashion together.
In addition, Baz Luhrmann will direct both women in conversations which will be shown on video, exploring the similarities and common thought behind their work

“Given the role Surrealism and other art movements play in the designs of both Schiaparelli and Prada, it seems only fitting that their inventive creations be explored here at the Met,” said Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  “Schiaparelli’s collaborations with Dalí and Cocteau as well as Prada’s Fondazione Prada push art and fashion ever closer, in a direct, synergistic, and culturally redefining relationship.”
