Laura Muscat | La Maison Sartorie D'Amber on STROTA
The menswear brand SROTA featured me on their blog this week in their section Learn From the Ladies.  They did an interview about my view of men, menswear and style sins. It was fun to answer and when I read again what I wrote, I smile.
One correction, I'm not a stylist, I'm a fashion blogger, journalist, PR and brand consultant.

You can read the whole interview here, but here are a few snippets

MENSWEAR STYLE SINS
Sleeveless tops
Tank tops
Worn out shoes

I LOVE A MAN IN

Fashion dreams | Firenze, Polimoda and Milan Fashion Week

The day has finally come, after months of waiting, today I move to Firenze in Italy to study fashion at Polimoda, Institute for Design & Marketing.
I have 4 suitcases, weighing approx 80kg, because when going to a fashion school and a city like Firenze, you cannot pack lightly, after all a fashion blogger, and someone who loves shoes cannot fail to look bad.
I will be entering the world of fashion as soon as I arrive because Vogue Fashion's Night Out is tonight, my luck! I'm excited!
I hope to meet Simone Righi, the man who was made famous by The Sartorialist for his exceptional style. I will be popping by his shop, Tie Your Tie, just wanting to get a glimpse of the man.
Then I'm off to Stefanel to meet one of my favourite fashion bloggers, Chiara Ferragni and get my hands on one of her t-shirts, where all proceeds are going towards those affected by the earthquake in Emiglia Romagna.
I cannot not visit Luisa Via Roma, THE STORE TO BE IN, a fashion heaven for all fashionistas, and one of the best supporters for fashion bloggers.
Tonight, I will be out and about in Firenze with my roommate Emily for FNO, the tomorrow its my first glimpse of Polimoda and of course off to Milan for Milan Fashion Week.

Where am I going for my Masters? Polimoda, Florence

Florence awaits me and I'm waiting it with  anticipation.

On 18th September my fashion journey continues, and this time its for real, my dreams are becoming a reality and it is where my career will jump start and it is where my future will be written.

I had to chose between 3 fashion schools, but somehow my heart and mind pulled me towards Florence and Polimoda.

At Polimoda -Institute for fashion Design and Marketing, in Florence, I will be studying Master in Fashion Brand Management. It was the best choice for me because the course they offered is perfectly suited for me and for what I want, in addition it has a great reputation and excellent professors. Its an institute which opens its doors to its students and supports them in a multitude of manners.

The course will be starting on the 1st of October, when Autumn leaves will start falling and the day starts becoming shorter.

I found a roommate too, Emily, American/Australian I think (Emily please confirm), and we found a beautiful apartment opposite the beautiful Arno river, five minutes away from our campus, Villa Favard in Via Curtatone.

The Villa, which is also known as a Palazzo, was built around 1857 by a Giuseppe Poggi for a baronessa. It is a spectacular building, neoclassical style, perfectly fit for a fashion school.
As time goes by, I will update more and more about Polimoda, my adventures and that of my course mates

The journey will start soon and in the meantime preparations are on their way, I have to start reading fashion books and prepare for a different lifestyle change, for the little gem in the middle of the Mediterranean to the capital of fashion and art - Florence.

Fashion Exams ... Polimoda

Fashion Exams ... the upcoming entrance exams at Polimoda in Florence and ESMOD Paris

It has been one hell of a week! I finally finished my thesis, I cannot believe it, I thought that this day would never come, it did and its over. Anyway, now coming up are my 2 fashion exams related to the Masters courses I applied for.

I applied for Fashion Brand Management at Polimoda in Florence and Fashion Business at ESMOD Paris.
The Polimoda exam is tomorrow and it should take me around 15 hours, its long and intense, but worth every minute and hour. I will be analysing a brand, from advertising strategies and market strategies, and my brand of choice is Dolce & Gabbana, its the brand I know most, hoping to be a winner for me. After that I will be interviewed by the Course Coordinator .. I'm so excited!

Florence is magical, its Italy, its the food, its the architecture, the art .. all these influences will make the study experience worthwhile!

Watch the video ... you'll automatically start dreaming!

The ESMOD Paris exam is on the 13th of June, that will be a shorter exam, a two hour exam based on my knowledge of fashion, but I will post information when the exam is closer.
Florence
I cannot imagine if I pass both exams, which one will I choose. Florence v Paris ... Florence is winning me over, after all Italy is my first love.

Off to study a bit.

fingers crossed.

Here's what's coming up ... Blog, blog, blog, fashion, fashion, fashion ..

Hi All,

Hope you're all well, I've abandoned you, please forgive me but I've been really busy with all the amount of University work I have, I'm in my final year, actually last 3 weeks to be exact and I find myself drowned in work, books and papers - really not fashionable, oh well, its a trend I've adopted lately, adorning books and papers.
My room is in a state of complete and utter disorder, sort of a room crisis, books everywhere, from fashion books, to James Joyce books, to political science books, papers, notes and pens - you can imagine! Then I have my clothes on the sofa and shoes on the floor because I have no more space where to put them, in other words - My life is in a complete clutter, until I finish this semester.
In the meantime, I have thought of many blogs which I will be posting, hopefully soon.

So here's what I will be blogging about in June and July:

Fashion Exams ... My 2 upcoming entrance exams at Polimoda in Florence and ESMOD Paris
Pink ... one of the summer trends for 2012, I will advise on how to wear pink and all the lovely shades.
Maltese Designers ... I will blog about my favourite blogs, related exclusively to fashion and showcasing some of Malta's new upcoming designers.
The Turban ... a new trend that's emerging
Men's Style ... and their street style
My latest purchases - story telling ... and the many stories behind them
My fashion forward friends ... I'll be posting photos of my fashionable friends
Fashionista - Get the Look ... who will be next? Let me know who you want me to blog about :)
The 19th of June ... the end of my studies at UOM
Fashion Happening - An Event ... something that's coming up in the next few months, a fashion event
Fashion Icon Wallis Simpson ... I'm really intrigued by her story
Masters ... where will I go? Polimoda
Room redecorating and closet clean up ... total revamp
Me and my style ... I will post an Outfit of the Day and finally you'll see my style
Blog revamp ... JULY will mark the revamp of my blog and my logo - so stay tuned, looking for designers

Till then ... if you want to get in contact with me, email me at lauramuscat@gmail.com

My dilemma ... political science v fashion

Dear All,

It's killing me that I haven't posted anything in over a week, but I'm tied to my desk and cannot let myself delve into something else.
I'm sitting here, writing a thesis which is very important, but really not relevant to my future prospects and I wonder, what did I get myself into?
I guess I admitted to myself, way too late, that fashion is where I should be before I could pursue what I really wanted and loved, finally I let out the ambitious trait that exists deep down in me.
Now, I'm seeing an end to this politcal science tunnel ... it has given me a lot, not only discipline and formation, but friends, peers, ESO, and my course mates - they are the best thing that ever happened to me, it was fun, interesting and challenging.
The best friends that I've made in this course have pushed me to pursue a goal, which I thought was too big to achieve, but they saw my potential and believed in me - now fingers crossed!

to the Royal Elites, you know who you are ...
Long Facebooks chats, the inevitable nicknames, the cool online course group, the many times wasted in coffee shops and at the library, the overdue drink, the travels, the sleepless all night thesis support system, our crazy nights and our very international group - going to miss you.
It has been a very difficult year but there is always a finish line ...

4 weeks to go ...

Ami, Den, Emiljan, Jamie, Julia, Petra, Steffen ...

Finish dissertation, 3 exams, 2 assignments (related to political science) AND another 2 exams, but those will be for my Masters, related to FASHION!
It will be over soon, and another new journey will begin!
There will be another one or two teary eyed posts about the course of course, one after the 19th June, when everything is over and when I graduate, hopefully.

Remember all dreams can come true, you have to want it, your dreams are as big as you want them to be, just go for it and smile!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog ... La Maison Sartorie D'Amber

I am Laura ... I'm a fashion lover, aspiring fashionista and student ...

This blog came about when a friend, Andrey, suggested that I should chronicle my life and my love of fashion. He suggested this because fashion can be seen bin my daily choices and by the way I am, he says that life is worth writing about, calling me a very busy woman.

So after some thought, whilst looking at graduate courses in fashion management and business during  exams, I decided to come up with this fashion blog - La Maison Sartorie D'Amber.
I decided that this will be a tailored guide to fashion news, updates, trends, reviews and much more, after all I'm passionate about this industry and always want to read and know more.

The name of the blog was a tedious job, I couldn't come up with a name, all I could see were many words and couldn't put them together, so I asked for the help of two dear friends, Jean-Paul and Vivienne. I wanted a French name, because I love how words sound in the french language. It is not normal because usually, I go for anything that is Italian, since, I love everything about Italy ... from the fashion, lifestyle, food, history, everything!

The many words came to be ... La Maison Sartorie D'Amber

1. Amber ... a dear friend calls me Amber Eyes and since this person means something to me because he believes in me, and always pushes me to be better, I had to include something that represents him. Also I wear a lot of amber shades weather its clothing, shoes or jewellery, so it seemed very appropriate.

2. Sartorie - Tailoring ...  is the ultimate thing that embodies the fashion trade, it is what makes a design unique.

3. Maison - House ...  it is where your home is ... and this is where I intend to make my home and release all the creativity that there is in me to produce something beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the fashion journey with me.

xoxo
